PROJECT:
National Synchrotron Light Source II (NSLS)
Brookhaven National Laboratory
Funded by:
US Department of
Energy
|
Project
Overview:
The National Synchrotron Light Source II (NSLS-II)
at Brookhaven National Laboratory will be an
advanced, highly optimized, third generation, medium
energy storage ring. The NSLS-II will replace the
current NSLS facility, which will be 30 years old
when the proposed NSLS-II becomes operational. The
X-ray brightness and the flux of the NSLS-II will be
world leading, exceeding that of any other
synchrotron light source currently existing or under
construction. It will be 10,000 times brighter and
have 10 times higher flux than the present NSLS.

|
Clients Challenge:
The unprecedented brightness
and flux of the NSLS-II in combination with
anticipated developments in optics, detector,
and computing power will lead to many advanced
experimental capabilities that are not possible
today. Access to these new capabilities and the
unique infrastructure envisioned for this new
facility will have profound impact on a
wide
range of scientific disciplines and initiatives
and lead to many exciting discoveries in the
coming decades.

Triad's Solution:
In 2006 Brookhaven National Lab
hired Triad Project Management to provide cost
estimating, schedule planning, and performance
measurement baseline development for the NSLS-II
project. Triad worked with and supported the
project's technical team as it prepared for the DOE
readiness reviews Le. Critical Decision 1 (CD-1) and
Critical Decision 2 (CD-2). Triad is also supporting
the design and implementation of the Earned Value
Management System (EVMS) processes and procedures.
Triad is currently providing:
-
Design and Implementation of the EVMS
Processes and procedures
-
Developing the Integrated Project Schedule
(IPS)
-
Creation and Validation of the Project
Integrated Cost and Schedule Baseline
-
Creation of Project and Business Reports for
Management
-
Support of the detailed Cost Estimating
-
Development of detailed Project Planning
|
|
Result:
New cost estimate and schedule
delivered on-time and project team in-place. |
